Take aways:
Articles used as a backbone of reform or change efforts need to be properly vetted.
Both Reeves and McKenzie speak to inaccurate data, generalizations lacking supporting data, and inaccurate or limited data samples
Generational Differences
There are a variety of names for generations. I will need to made sure everyone I'm talking with shares the same definitions and understanding in order to avoid confusion.
Stereotypes of generations can be inaccurate. Know the individuals you are working with- don't assume.
As I read McKenzie's article I thought it fit well with NETS A Standard 5b. McKenzie presents an argument constructed by Marc Prensky which lacks scientific backing. The tone McKenzie takes when addressing the flawed logic, is intriguing to me. As an educational leader, I need to remember to put a system in place to examine the references cited in an article. I need to be able to defend the data sources used to make decisions. I need to make sure the sources are sound. I need to be able to model and promote policies which are ethical and , legal and safe.
Amy - It is truly about knowing individuals and their specific needs. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
